National Hunter

How do I obtain my data from National Hunter?

UK Data Laws gives you the right of access to know what information an organisation holds about you. To obtain this, you need to send us a Subject Access Request

What data do we hold?

We hold the information you provided on your application/s to banks, building societies, and other sectors of the financial services industry who are part of National Hunter. We may also hold information obtained from other sources, including our members, law enforcement, public sector and regulatory bodies. We do not hold details of PPI policies or payments.

What data do we no hold?

We do not hold credit scoring records, credit histories, copies of County Court Judgements (CCJs), electoral roll information, details of PPI policies or payments.

How long is my data kept?

Depending on the status of your application, the data will be kept up to 6 months, and with a maximum retention period of 6 years.

What data will I receive?

You will receive the information you provided on your application/s to banks, building societies, and other sectors of the financial services industry who are part of National Hunter. If held, you will also receive information obtained from other sources, including our members, law enforcement, public sector and regulatory bodies.

Why is my data on National Hunter?

Application data is sent to National Hunter as part of an organisation's normal processing procedures. Any application sent to National Hunter will include a section within the Fair Processing Notice (or similar) to state that you agree that the data can be used for fraud prevention purposes.

Why isn't there any data for me on National Hunter

Not all financial institutions submit data to National Hunter, or it could be that you have not made any applications for credit in the past 6 months. Either way, this is not a cause for concern.

Can I dispute data held about me?

If you believe the information held is incorrect, we would advise you to contact the organisation you applied to.

Can National Hunter change data?

National Hunter is not the data owner and only the organisation submitting the data has the ability and authority to amend the data.

Is data used for any purpose other than fraud prevention?

No, data is only used for fraud prevention purposes.

Obtaining Your Data

Does National Hunter hold details of PPI policies

We do not hold details of PPI policies or payments

How much does it cost to obtain my data?

There is no charge for obtaining your personal data. However, we reserve the right to charge a reasonable fee, or refuse to act on the request, where we consider the requests to be manifestly unfounded, excessive or repetitive.

How long does it take to process a request for inf

We have up to one month from receipt of the correctly completed documentation to process the request.

What happens to my request for information and ID once it has been dealt with?

Once we have completed the request we will securely destroy all documentation after one month.

Identification Needed

Why do I need to send identification?

For identification purposes, we require you to send us copies of your personal ID. This is done to protect you against impersonation, and fraudulent requests for your information.

Why does National Hunter sometimes ask for original identification?

If we are unsatisfied with the quality of copy ID provided by you, we hold the right to request the original document. This is done to protect you against fraudulent requests for your information.

General Information

What is the difference between National Hunter and a credit reference agency?

National Hunter is solely concerned with preventing fraud. Unlike credit reference agencies, we do not hold any credit scoring records, credit histories, copies of County Court Judgements (CCJs) or electoral roll information.

Can my application be automatically declined due to National Hunter information?

No. Applications are not automatically declined on the basis of National Hunter data, and organisations must conduct their own checks before taking any action. All organisations are fully audited on their use of the system on a regular basis.

Do debt collection agencies have access to National Hunter?

No. Debt collection agencies do not have access to National Hunter.

What is National Hunter's relationship with Experian?

Experian are our service provider. They house the data on our behalf.

Why have I been directed to National Hunter?

You may have been directed to us if your application has been unsuccessful, and where the organisation concerned submits data to National Hunter. This does not necessarily mean that National Hunter data has contributed to that decision, but if you are in any doubt, you may want to check the information we hold about you by sending a Subject Access Request Form
